OVERLOOKING Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, this modern farmhouse is a result of an extensive renovation that combined an old post and beam barn with a new addition. The client, who regularly hiked beloved Old Rag Mountain as a child, envisioned a spacious weekend mountain retreat where extended family could also gather for holidays. The residence thoughtfully incorporates reclaimed timbers from the original barn and stone found on the farm with modern materials such as board and batten siding, standing seam metal roofing, and cable railing. Expansive windows and a glass link connecting the new addition take advantage of idyllic mountain views, while also offering direct access to a covered Ipe deck and bluestone paved pool.
