Ronald McDonald House New Playroom
Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for seriously ill children and their families and helps to fund programs that directly improve the well-being of children. The playroom at Ronald McDonald House on Lexington Street in Baltimore was in need of renovation due to water damage. Purple Cherry Architects created a new space that would take the children on a round the world journey and at the same time represent the diverse cultures of all those receiving care. The original ceiling was replaced and painted sky blue. Cloud panels hang throughout the space and are backlit adding drama to the vibrant setting. The Bromo Seltzer Tower in Baltimore stands out along with well-known images from France, England, Africa and the Middle East. The travel journey continues with trains, planes and even hot air balloons. The child-size kitchen area has cabinets shaped like the buildings on Lexington Street including Ronald McDonald House. The vinyl floor is laser-cut to resemble the topography of an imaginary terrain with land masses and waterways. A dedicated Lego® table is available for play as well as an art table shaped like Tower Bridge in London and a two-level rail train set. Purple Cherry Architects selected all finishes and materials that make up the new playroom at Ronald McDonald House.
