Anne Arundel Community College held a design competition as a means of soliciting improvements to their Administrative Services building. Upon first visiting the site, it became immediately apparent to our design team that this building would instantly become a significant component of the visual entry sequence into the main Anne Arundel Community College campus. Our design strategy for aesthetic enhancements involved breaking up the primary Ring Road façade into several different interwoven visual components. The result is a building that relates to the passerby as a landscape of sequence vignettes. These vignettes emphasize our objective to celebrate the procession from the entrance toward the main campus, to create a clear entrance lobby for this building, and to demarcate the building to the campus with imagery relating to the college’s identity package. Our design respected the original floor plan and basic massing of the feasibility level scheme.
