Excellence in Design Award from American Buildings Company

June 26, 2009 -- American Buildings Company awarded Opportunity Builders, Inc. ("OBI") with an Excellence in Design Award in the category of "Green Facility."  American Buildings Company ("ABC") manufactures custom pre-engineered metal buildings.  Gardiner & Gardiner General Contractors, LLC of Crofton, MD was the builder for the project, which was designed by local Annapolis firm, Purple Cherry Architects.  The building was predominantly constructed using Architectural Metal Systems provided by ABC in a cost savings effort.  "We worked closely with Gardiner & Gardiner to incorporate sustainable elements into the design to gain certifiable status under the USGBC requirements.  We are so pleased with ABC's recognition of this project," noted Cathy Purple Cherry, AIA, LEED AP, Principal and Owner of Purple Cherry Architects.  Included in the design were sustainable elements such as a reflective white roof, cotton batt insulation, recycled content carpet and all natural resilient flooring to name just a few.
